I don’t know about you, but the cold really deters me from wanting to step one foot outside my door, which can make it really difficult to muster up the motivation to get my butt to the gym. So I invested in some essential “home gym” equipment that I consider to be must-haves to stay toned at home! Plus, they won’t break the bank (especially when shopping at TJ maxx!).

  • Yoga mat
    • Yoga mats are a must to protect those joints from hard floors! Remember- when putting weight on your wrists during planks, for example, push down on your fingertips to distribute the weight and protect the joint!
  • 5 and 10 lb. weights
    • I use each weight for different moves depending on the exercise. I’ll use the 10 pounders for squats and the 5 pounders for arms, for example. Either way some form of weight training is great to stay toned and to build bone density (which is especially important for us, ladies).
  • Yoga block
    • I mainly use my yoga block to aid in stretching. Place under your upper or lower back to get a nice spinal stretch, or if you are still working on your flexibility place under your tush to lift your hips while stretching forward over your legs. Stretching has so many benefits that I cannot stress enough how important it is! Protect your muscles (and gain better sleep) by stretching pre and post-workout, and make sure those muscles are warm before you stretch!
