Some days it’s hard to get a workout in. Whether it be a schedule conflict, illness, or just one of those days where everything goes wrong… life happens and we can’t always workout the way we would like. But even if this is the case, it is still important to stay active throughout the day. One great way to keep yourself moving is by walking. Walking is great because you can do it anywhere. Get your steps in by cleaning your house, going outside, or even by strolling up and down those Target aisles we all know and love.
Everyone seems to have a fitbit these days, or at least some sort of pedometer. iPhones have them built in, and you can access your step count in the health app. If you follow our instragram at @catwalkandcuisine, you know my hubby and I were in Las Vegas last week for a little getaway (pictures are from our hike at Red Rock Canyon). Just because of the sheer size of the hotels and the distance between shops and restaurants we were logging 20,000 steps each day! It is recommended that everyone log at least10,000 steps each day, which is equivalent to about 4-5 miles depending on the length of your stride.
According to Harvard Health Publications, walking decreases your risk of heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, and can also lower your blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Walking is also as effective as medications in decreasing depression! Wow! Who wouldn’t want those benefits? You can access the full article here.
In conclusion, walk! Get out there and do something good for yourself, your body, and your mind. You won’t regret it!
Until next time,
