Did you know that over half of your body is made up of water? Makes it seem like a pretty important thing, doesn’t it? And yet so many people don’t get the hydration their body desperately needs, and wants! You might be thinking “I might not drink much water, but I drink plenty of other fluids! That’s ok, right?” WRONG! Fluids like coffee, soda, alcohol, and juice (yes juice) all dehydrate you. Plus, water has so many benefits that you can’t get elsewhere. Better sleep, a better and more efficiently running body, higher energy, and it aids in weight loss! Now you might be thinking, “I just don’t have time in my day to make sure I drink enough water…” Yes, some days are so hectic you may forget to adequately hydrate. So here are some tips and tricks to make sure you succeed!
- Carry around a water bottle-wherever you go
- I never go anywhere without my Camelbak 1 liter bottle. I try and make sure I drink 2 each day. To start my day off on the right foot, I try and drink 1/2 liter right when I wake up. It helps energize and refresh me!
- Jazz up your water
- I love adding lemon to my water, but you can infuse any fruit you want! Try adding cucumbers, peaches, strawberries, or blueberries! Don’t add those water flavorings…they’re just turning your water into sugar water! Which in the end dehydrates you.
- Fruit it up!
- Fruit is made up of mostly water! Make a fruit smooth in the morning, or eat an orange with lunch. Fruit juice on the other hand does nothing for you. The reason whole fruit is so good for you is because although it may contain sugars, it also contains the fiber your body needs to use those sugars in a good way. Juices are stripped of all the fruity benefits and only leave you with a sugary beverage.
I hope this inspires you to drink, drink, drink! Not convinced yet? Then here’s a challenge…drink 2 liters of water a day for 10 days, then tell me how you feel! I guarantee this challenge won’t disappoint. 🙂
